BOARD OF DIRECTORS:
The Board of Directors (the “Board”) is responsible for setting general policy for the organization and for oversight of its operations and financial health.
Three Standing Committees – Finance, Audit & Compensation, Stakeholder Relations & Fund Development, and Governance – are also in place with specific Board-approved mandates.
ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
The Calgary Sport Council Society was formed in 2001 after a multi-year sport community consultation that called for a unified voice for sport in Calgary to assist in creating solutions for sport issues. A dedicated group of volunteers known as the Calgary Sport Council Planning Committee developed a structure for this new organization and incorporated it as the Calgary Sport Council Society.
The formalization of the Calgary Sport Council Society was the first step toward bringing sport organizations together to discuss issues and opportunities to enhance the delivery and development of sport in Calgary. In recent years the organization has been re-branded as Sport Calgary and is a not-for-profit society incorporated under the laws of the Province of Alberta. Sport Calgary operates independently from the City of Calgary as a proud Civic Partner, in alignment with the Sport for Life Policy unanimously approved by City Council in 2018, as well as the Investing in Partnerships Policy.
Sport Calgary represents more than 350 member organizations as of 2022. Membership is free and open to anyone who supports Sport Calgary’s mission and values. To be eligible for election as a director, a candidate must be a registered “Individual” member in good standing.
