Let’s work together to make sport safe for everyone!
As of April 1, 2025, the Canadian Safe Sport Program (CSSP) replaced the Abuse-Free Sport Program. Sport Calgary remains committed to fostering a sport community that is safe, inclusive, and respectful for all participants. The CSSP was created to uphold these values by enforcing the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS).
Administered independently by the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES), the CSSP oversees reports of misconduct and provide resources to promote education, prevention, and policy development. Our shared goal is to create an environment where all participants—athletes, coaches, volunteers, and administrators—feel protected and supported.
Starting in 2026, Sport organizations may hold membership without completing Safe Sport requirements; however, participation in Sport Calgary events will require full compliance beginning in 2026. Groups must implement the following Safe Sport requirements: Rule of Two, Code of Conduct, Police Checks, Vulnerable Sector Police Checks.
Did you know there is 3 different types of police check. Did you also know those 3 types of police checks look at different items and aren’t the same. If you didn’t, we got you covered! Check out this document that explains it all: HERE
Sport organizations policies and codes of conduct should align with CSSP principles, reinforcing their dedication to maintaining a respectful sport environment.

Sport Calgary encourages all members of our sports community to familiarize themselves with the CSSP guidelines. By staying informed and engaged, we can collectively contribute to a culture that prioritizes safety and respect.
